Young Artists Programme

“This has been helped enormously by Page’s ear for the most promising young singers and his way of getting the best out of them… It’s paid dividends over the past two years: many of the top names of the past two decades found their feet and got their first big chances with The Mozartists… it’s a long list, and Page’s latest ‘Associate Artists’ are always a good bet for future stardom”.

OPERA NOW

Developing young singers has always been central to The Mozartists’ mission, and over the years it has played a central role in helping well over 150 young singers to establish their careers. The company’s Associate Artist Scheme was formalised in 2006, and it offers emerging singers vital opportunities to perform at top UK venues with our award winning period-instrument orchestra. Each year, we make sure that some of our projects are specifically devised around our Associate Artists, and other promising early-career artists.

Starting out as a professional singer is a vulnerable process. It is financially precarious, worsened by funding cuts to the arts and the cost-of-living crisis. Our scheme bridges the gap between education and a secure professional career, offering in-depth coaching, mentoring and performance opportunities to support their musical and professional growth, working towards the highest professional standards.

Often, we give young artists their very first experience of performing in prestigious venues with a world-class period-instrument orchestra, providing an important stepping stone into the industry. Artists are selected based on their exceptional promise and, through the invaluable performance and training opportunities we offer, can grow their confidence, hone their musicianship, and establish meaningful relationships within our orchestra and audiences.

The impressive roster of artists nurtured by the company at the outset of their careers includes Louise Alder, Sophie Bevan, Mary Bevan, Rebecca Bottone, Hugo Brady, Samantha Clarke, Allan Clayton, Anna Devin, Ava Dodd, Alessandro Fisher, Kiandra Howarth, Alexandra Lowe, Soriya Mafi, Sally Matthews, Jacques Imbrailo, Stuart Jackson, Emily Pogorelc, Natalya Romaniw, Chiara Skerath and Rebecka Wallroth, to name just a few.
