The Mozartists’ latest recording ‘Gluck Arias’, a programme of Gluck arias sung by acclaimed mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg, was one of three UK entries – the others being The Royal Opera House (World Premiere) and Hugh Cutting (Rising Star) – to win awards in the 12th edition of the International Opera Awards this month.
The winners were chosen from over 14,000 nominations for artists and companies from 25 countries. The presentation was livestreamed to a global audience from Greek National Opera in Athens, and this recording was one of eight finalists in the solo recital category.
This is the third time that Ann Hallenberg has won this award, and the third time that The Mozartists have been shortlisted for it. Ian Page’s previous Gluck recording with The Mozartists (‘Blessed Spirit – a Gluck retrospective’) was selected by Gramophone magazine among the top 10 Gluck recordings of all time.
“Everything here is supremely well and intelligently sung, with sensitive and idiomatic support from Ian Page’s Mozartists.” OPERA MAGAZINE
“Page and The Mozartists play with great style and commitment, really sounding like they are enjoying themselves.
And, listening to this skilfully curated exposition of Gluck’s humane genius, so was I.” GRAMOPHONE
