David Shipley was Head Chorister at Lichfield Cathedral and a Choral Scholar at Wells Cathedral. He was subsequently awarded a Sir Elton John Scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music, and is currently a scholar on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He is an Associate Artist with The Mozartists, having made his company début in 2009 in Handel’s Dixit Dominus, and he sang the role of Priest of Apollo on the company’s recording of Mozart’s Apollo et Hyacinthus. Most recently he appeared as Commendatore in the company’s performance of Don Giovanni at Cadogan Hall in 2016. Further roles have included Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) for Royal Academy Opera, Dr Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro) for Amersham Music Festival and Tiresias (Oedipus Rex) with the Monteverdi Choir and the London Symphony Orchestra. David Shipley is a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where his roles so far have included Arthur and Officer III (The Lighthouse), Captain (Eugene Onegin), Sciarrone (Tosca), Guccio (Gianni Schicchi), and High Priest of Baal (Nabucco).
