Vuyani Mlinde studied at the Free State Musicon, South Africa, the Opera Queensland Young Artists Programme, the Royal College of Music, and the Benjamin Britten International Opera School. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and was the 2007 recipient of the coveted Clonter Opera Prize, and finalist in the prestigious Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition in Germany. He has performed in productions of Le nozze di Figaro, Don Carlo, Die Zauberflöte, Murder in the Cathedral, Tosca, Médée, L’amico Fritz, The Makropoulos Case, and The Rake’s Progress all with Oper Frankfurt. Other opera roles include Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Bonze (Madama Butterfly), Angelotti (Tosca), Leporello and Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Colline (La bohème) all for the Royal Opera House, Tchelio (The Love for Three Oranges) for Grange Park Opera, and Colline (La bohème) for Houston Grand Opera.
