Antoin Herrera-López Kessel is a versatile musician and bass-baritone passionate about both classical and modern/contemporary music repertoire. Collaborating closely with Cuban musicians and composers, he showcases the cuban classical music repertoire in harmony with European music, musicians, and composers. In Europe, Antoin made his debut with Francesco Filidei’s opera, Giordano Bruno, presented by Antoine Dgint T&M Paris and Ensemble Intercontemporain’s production between 2016 and 201 conducted by Peter Rundel and Léo Warynski. He also participated in residence programs at the Festival d’Aix en Provence, including the Résidence Mozart in 2016 and the Aldeburgh Festival’s Residence for the XXI Century Artists in 2018, where guidance from mentors played a pivotal role in his artistic growth. In 2018, he served as a resident artist at the Biennale di Venezia for the 63rd International Festival of Contemporary Music, where he performed the opera Push by Alvise Zambon.

Since 2017, Antoin has been an integral part of Equilibrium Mentoring for Young Professional Artists, an initiative founded by the soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan. This invaluable opportunity has allowed him to perform at prestigious concert halls, renowned festivals, and alongside first-class orchestras and ensembles, including collaborations at the Ojai Music Festival and Aldeburgh Festival with the Ludwig Orchestra, performances at DR Koncerthuset Copenhagen with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, at Berwaldhallen with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and collaborations with Musikkollegium Winterthur and Festival de Pâques d’Aix en Provence.

More recently, Antoin has been engaged in collaborations with Maxime Pascal & Le Balcon, participating in various productions such as Freitag & Sonntag aux Licht by Karlheinz Stockhausen and taking on the lead role in Olivier Messiaen’s opera, Saint Francois d’Assise at the George Enescu Festival. Notably, the filmmaker Itziar Leemans documented the journey of Antoin HL Kessel, along with his brother and sister, in a documentary film titled “Parque Lenin”. This documentary has received acclaim at several international documentary film festivals, including winning the first prize at the Moscow International Documentary Film Festival in 2016.

Antoin originally hails from La Havana, Cuba, where he initially studied classical and contemporary dance. Later, he pursued Engineering and Mathematics at the University of Informatics Sciences. His journey then led him to France, where he furthered his artistic pursuits, studying at the Conservatoire de Besançon and subsequently at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse de Lyon, earning a Soloist Diploma at the Musik-Akademie Basel.
